Not all PCOS is the same…
PCOS is often spoken about as if it’s one condition, but in reality, there are different subtypes. Understanding your type is the key to finding the most effective treatment.
The four main types of PCOS:
Insulin-resistant PCOS
The most common form, where high insulin levels drive excess androgens. Symptoms often include weight gain, acne, and irregular cycles.Post-pill PCOS
Some women develop PCOS-like symptoms after stopping the pill. This is often temporary but needs support to rebalance cycles.Inflammatory PCOS
Chronic inflammation disrupts ovulation and raises androgens. Symptoms may include fatigue, headaches, skin issues, or digestive complaints.Adrenal PCOS
Instead of the ovaries producing excess androgens, the adrenal glands do. Stress is a major driver here.
Why knowing your type matters
Different drivers need different solutions. Insulin-resistant PCOS may respond well to diet changes and insulin-sensitising herbs. Inflammatory PCOS may benefit from anti-inflammatory nutrients. Adrenal PCOS often requires stress and nervous system support.
When you understand your PCOS type, you can stop trying random supplements or diets and start targeting the root cause.
