3 Tips for Painful Periods
I know that it can be debilitating and really interfere with day to day activities. There is nothing worse than dreading that time of the month...and when it is painful, it feels like that time is ALWAYS coming around so quickly!
I have 3 naturopathic tips for you to consider when reducing painful periods...
1. Supplement with magnesium and B6 - These two nutrients have great benefits when it comes to reducing painful periods and also preventing PMS (think mood swings, breast tenderness, fatigue). Opt for 300 mg elemental magnesium daily (preferably bisglycinate) and 100 mg daily of B6.
2. Daily movement - Studies have shown that regular exercise significantly reduces menstrual pain. This is due to it increasing endorphins, reducing inflammatory prostaglandins and supporting healthy circulation. Aim for 30-60 minutes daily of whatever tickles your fancy :)
3. Seed cycling - Consuming organic ground flaxseed, sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seeds at different stages of your cycle can help balance hormones and reduce inflammation.
